On the Move Again - Langley Art Studio Tour

NEW WORKS FROM THE STUDIO OF ART BY WENDY

Very exciting event this weekend and next, our own Art Studio Tour here in the Valley!!  This will by my 3rd year with the tour and I love having the opportunity to meet and talk with art lovers all day!!
I will be at the Stop of Interest D - Langley Gallery and Arts Center, 20550 Fraser Hwy, where I have my show with Audrey Bakewell happening "Colour and Value Comes to Life" and I have a studio/gallery space.  It  is nice to finally have my own spot for this event.

As part of the event I will be offering free Demos on tips and techniques for Putting People in Your Paintings.  Many artists are reluctant to add that person to their work but I think using the gesture drawing technique "Line of Action" it can be done in a very successful way.  This is also a great way to develop figurative work.  The demos will run each of the 4 days of the tour so come and join me when you can.

For Maps and further info on the tour see the website: www.langleyartstudiotour.ca

Poppies in the Spring

NEW WORKS FROM THE STUDIO OF ART BY WENDY
POPPIES IN THE SPRING - 20 x 24 Framed $800

Have you see the Poppies this Spring?  They have been beautiful.  Their lovely bright colours, large petals and wonderful lines make them very popular with artists everywhere.  This picture is my latest and uses a new technique I have been working with: Texturing Paste with Watercolour. It really creates the heavy brush strokes that thick oils and acrylics have but allows the colours to blend and  change in a way only watercolour can do.  The best of all worlds!
I will be demoing this technique at our show Paints'n Bloom tomorrow, Friday, June 14 at West Coast Garden Center.  Audrey Bakewell and myself are the featured artists in the show.  Her demo "Using the Elegant Writer Pen with Watercolour" is at 11:00am and my demo "Texturing Paste with Watercolour" is at 1:30pm.  The show runs Friday and Saturday, June 14 & 15, 10-4pm. It is in support of the Alzheimer Society of British Columbia.  Donations will be collected and a percentage of the art sales goes directly to the Society.  A large selection of information for Alzheimer Resources in the community will be available.  See you there.
West Coast Garden Center: 1420 172 St., S Surrey  ( They are working on 16 Ave. so access off 24 Ave or 8 Ave to 168 St., detour is marked on the roads)

Plein Air – Painting and Drawing Outdoors is fun in this weather!!

NEW WORKS FROM THE STUDIO OF ART BY WENDY

Can you believe it, 30 degrees on May 5th and again today!!! We never had weather like this last spring!  We have been eating, relaxing and playing outside, it is wonderful.  Yet I feel a little guilty when I see the weather in other parts of Canada.  We are very fortunate.
Tulips in the Garden -  20 minute sketch on painted paper
Good weather means painting and drawing outdoors, I just finished this quick sketch of my tulips, they are so pretty and they will soon be gone.   I am also preparing for a Free Demo tomorrow, Tuesday, May 7 at Opus Arts Supplies, Langley Store, 10-noon – Capture the Moment, Painting Outdoors with Wendy Mould, AFCA.  Just call the store to register 604-533-0601, it’s not too late if you would like to join us, they will do an afternoon session if they get too many people.  For the demo I will be talking about little quick projects like the tulips and longer more involved finished pieces like Tidal Pools, below.  Come join in the fun.
Tidal Pool - 5 x 7, watercolour, $165 framed.
If you can't make the demo and would like to learn more about Plein Air work, I will be offering private/semi-private outings to get your feet wet.  We will do a 1 hour orientation session at my studio then plan a 5 hour painting day, lots of fun and a really great experience.  Email me to book your Outdoor Adventure.

Workshop Weekend a Great Success!!

NEW WORKS FROM THE STUDIO OF ART BY WENDY

Hard at Work - Ideas were flying every where!!
WOW!! Can a weekend go faster!! We had a fabulous time working with our journals on Saturday and outside painting on Sunday. On Saturday it poured but who cared, we were busy creating pages for our journals and learning about new products and techniques.

For Sunday,  the weather was calling for rain (they had been telling us that all week) but on the big day the sun came out just long enough for us to get out there and get to work.  Audrey and I were kept hopping, keeping everyone busy; we had trouble getting them to stop for lunch!

When we threaten to take their water away they finally came in!!

Show and Tell

Everyone had fun and we learned a lot too.  For Audrey and I it was our first joint workshop and we will certainly do more.

The Little Dancer

NEW WORKS FROM THE STUDIO OF ART BY WENDY
THE LITTLE DANCER - 10 X 14 - Watercolor - $600 Framed

Have you ever been to a dance recital with young dancers? We went to many over the years with our daughter who loved to dance.  She tried jazz, tap and rhythmic gymnastics and enjoyed them all.  It is so much fun to watch the young dancers, full of enthusiasm, loving every moment and moving in their own way.  Of course the older dancers have lots of polish and pazazz but the young ones have that freedom and liveliness that can only be found in the new dancer.  I was really trying to capture that spirit with this painting of my young dancer with her tap group.
My painting is off to the “Just Dance” show at the Newton Cultural Center, 13530 72nd Ave, Surrey.  The show opens today, April 3 and runs to April 30.  Gallery is open 7 days a week 10-4pm.  The show is in celebration to the Dance Festivals that happen every April in Surrey at the Surrey Arts Center.  There are daily dance recitals as all the groups take part in this month long major competition.  Check out the art show and the festival, they are just down the street from each other.
As always cards and prints are available of all my work, starting at $3.50 for cards.
